Palmetto Legacy Collection: 

The Palmetto Heiress, is a celebration of legacy, cultural inheritance, and the enduring beauty of Gullah Geechee traditions. Through a composition of mother-and-daughter silhouettes, this mixed-media artwork explores the powerful ways cultural knowledge, artistic expression, and ancestral practices are passed from one generation to the next.

The mother represents the wisdom and knowledge of generations past, while the daughter embodies the promise of cultural continuity. Together, they symbolize a legacy that is not simply inherited, but actively cultivated, protected, and passed forward.

This work is both a personal tribute to the women who helped shape my artistic journey and a broader homage to the Gullah Geechee community. It honors the hands that taught us, the traditions that ground us, and the generations who will carry our cultural heritage into the future.

The mother and daughter are adorned with sculptural Gullah "Palmetto" Roses, crafted to serve as elaborate headpieces based into their headscarves. Their earring accessories are SweetGrass Basket weaving, honor one of the Lowcountry’s most treasured traditions and South Carolina state craft. 

Through this piece, I affirm that our greatest inheritance is not only what we receive from those before us, but what we preserve and pass on to those who follow.
